Our Story

Founded in 2012 by book enthusiasts Sarah Mitchell and James Chen, The Story Shelf began as a small neighborhood bookstore with a big dream: to create a welcoming space where readers could discover their next favorite book and connect with fellow literature lovers.

What started as a modest 800-square-foot shop in Brooklyn has grown into a beloved literary destination spanning over 3,500 square feet in Manhattan's vibrant Upper West Side. Our journey has been fueled by our unwavering belief that physical bookstores remain vital community hubs in an increasingly digital world.
